The Story Behind Road To Scholar

From a Personal Struggle to a Bigger Vision

The journey of Road To Scholar began in 2024, when I started exploring opportunities for higher education abroad.

Like many students aspiring to pursue a Master's or PhD, I quickly realized that finding the right opportunity was far more complicated than I had expected. It wasn't just about finding a university. I needed to identify programs that matched my academic background, discover professors whose research interests aligned with mine, explore potential supervisors, and find scholarships and funding opportunities that could make studying abroad financially possible.

The information I needed was scattered across hundreds of university websites, faculty profiles, research group pages, scholarship portals, and other online resources. Every university had its own website structure, every professor had a different research profile, and funding information was often published separately from admission requirements.

Finding the right information was only half the challenge. Keeping track of everything was another.

When Spreadsheets Became the First Solution

To manage the growing amount of information, I started creating Excel spreadsheets. I organized universities, professors, research interests, application requirements, and funding opportunities into different sheets. It was my way of bringing some order to an otherwise overwhelming process.

Initially, this approach helped. I could compare opportunities, keep notes, and gradually build a personal database to support my application journey.

But as the database grew, so did the challenges.

University information changed. Professors updated their research interests. Application deadlines passed, new opportunities appeared, and funding details became outdated. Keeping every spreadsheet accurate required constant manual effort. Updating one part of the database did not automatically update the others, and managing everything consistently became increasingly difficult.

I realized that the problem wasn't simply the amount of information available online. It was the way that information was scattered, organized, maintained, and accessed.

I had started building spreadsheets to save time, but maintaining them was gradually becoming another time-consuming task.

The Idea: What If Everything Could Be in One Place?

As I continued working with these spreadsheets, a question started to take shape in my mind:

What if the entire process could be made smarter and more automated?
  • What if students could explore universities, discover relevant professors, understand research opportunities, and find funding information through a single platform instead of repeatedly searching across dozens of websites?
  • What if information could be collected, structured, and maintained systematically, reducing the need for students to build and manage their own complicated spreadsheets?
  • And what if this platform could help students move beyond simply finding universities to identifying opportunities that genuinely match their academic backgrounds and research interests?

These questions gradually turned into a bigger vision: to build a centralized platform that makes higher education research more organized, accessible, and efficient.

I didn't want to create just another website listing universities. I wanted to build a practical solution to a problem I had personally experienced — a platform that could reduce repetitive research, simplify the discovery process, and help students make more informed decisions about their academic futures.

Turning an Idea into Road To Scholar

Turning that idea into reality was a journey of its own.

The goal was ambitious: bring together information about universities, professors, research interests, and higher education opportunities in a structured and searchable environment.

Instead of relying on manually maintained spreadsheets, I began working toward a system that could organize information at scale and support a more systematic approach to discovering opportunities.

The first version of Road To Scholar is an important step toward that vision. It brings together university and professor information across multiple countries, helping prospective Master's and PhD applicants explore potential academic pathways from one place.

The platform is still evolving. Not every feature I envision has been implemented, and there is much more to build. I see the current version not as a finished product, but as the foundation of something that can become far more useful over time.

My long-term vision is to develop Road To Scholar into a smarter, more comprehensive platform for higher education discovery — one that makes it easier for students to identify suitable universities, connect their interests with relevant research, explore funding opportunities, and navigate the journey toward graduate study.

More Than a Website

Road To Scholar is deeply connected to my own experience as a student and aspiring researcher. I understand how exhausting it can be to spend hours searching for information, comparing opportunities, and trying to determine which sources are relevant and up to date.

I also understand that behind every application is a person investing time, effort, and hope in a better future.

That is why I believe access to organized and useful information matters. Students should be able to spend more time preparing strong applications, developing their research interests, and planning their futures — and less time repeatedly collecting the same information from different sources.

I want Road To Scholar to grow beyond a directory into a platform that supports students throughout their higher education journey, with better discovery tools, more structured information, and increasingly intelligent ways to explore academic opportunities.

This is a work in progress, and I am building it step by step.

Looking Ahead

Road To Scholar started with a personal challenge in 2024. Today, it is an ongoing effort to turn that challenge into a solution that can help students far beyond my own application journey.

There is still a long way to go. The database will continue to expand, the platform will continue to improve, and new features will be developed as the project grows. Keeping information useful and maintaining a transparent approach to data updates will remain important parts of that journey.

I don't believe the process of pursuing higher education should be made unnecessarily complicated by fragmented information.

My vision is simple: make the journey to higher education easier, more organized, and more accessible for students around the world.

Road To Scholar is my attempt to make that vision a reality.

And this is only the beginning.
